Mariam Shabo

Miriam is currently Director of Resource Development and Fiscal Consulting for one of the largest private school systems in the country. She focuses on assessing fiscal status and providing fiscal planning and resource attainment consulting in support of the mission and work of the School System. In addition, she provides fiscal management services to the System Administration and is a member of the Legislative Committee. Miriam conducts workshops on Fiscal Management and External Funding Sources for the school leadership. Before that, she held the Finance and Information Technology Director position with a Special Municipal District, and the Business and Finance Manager's position for a Park District in Illinois. She also worked for the Canadian and the French Foreign Service and the private sector in Europe and Australia. She received her Master of Project Management degree from DeVry University/Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. She is Kellogg Executive Scholar and holds Executive Certificate of Professional Achievement in Non-Profit Management from the Kellogg School of Management/ Northwestern University in Chicago. She obtained her undergraduate education in Europe and Australia. Miriam holds professional memberships in the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the City Club of Chicago and the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, American Society of Women Accountants, Government Finance Officers Association, International Society for Technology in Education, Association of Information Technology Professionals, and Association of Fundraising Professionals. She currently serves on the Office of Catholic Schools Legislative Advisory Board. She served on The Illinois State Treasurer's Grassroots Outreach Task Force and is immediate past President of the USRW (United Southland Republican Women’s organization. She also served as the Scholarship Chair and Audit Chair for the IFRW (Illinois Federation of Republican Women). Miriam served on the Illinois Lt. Governor's Ethnic Advisory Council and Green Schools Committee and is past Secretary and Treasurer for the RTR (Rich Township Republican Organization). Miriam was slated by the Cook County Republican Organization to run for State Senate 40th District in 2006, and ran as a Presidential Convention Delegate in 2008. Miriam was Republican State Convention Delegate and Alternate Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2008. She ran for State Representative in 2008. She also served as Treasurer and Registered Agent for the Unity Coalition of the South Suburbs. Miriam is Lincoln Series Excellence in Public Service Fellow - Class of 2002, and is multiple recipient of the prestigious Government Finance Officers Association Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting and Distinguished Budget Presentation. She also received commendations from a group of Canadian Trade Commissioners as well as the Assistant Under Secretary of State for Administration for design and implementation of computerized business systems. Miriam was nominated by the American Biographical Institute as one of the Two Thousand Notable American Women, and Who is Who Registry of Global Business. She speaks German, French, Serbo-Croat, and has working  knowledge of Spanish and Arabic. Miriam and her husband Peter have one grown daughter and a nine year old grandson.
